To begin to think differently about the world and take action in ways that aren’t just talks of change but actual change in the beauty and lifestyle industries, even down to the structure, creating new ways to do business - and to better position ourselves for our future. To create systems that are practical and support our unique needs for ourselves and young girls of the future. Where melanated women and girls are seen, heard, nurtured, and supported. We aren’t just trying to replicate what’s already been done, seen, or simply following those “formulas” to recreate based on a system that always works to make a sale. We are going beyond the boxes—not only thinking differently and challenging societal norms but also creating new systems that better support our personal needs as melanated women, globally, and as a community in society as a whole. We also aim to create lucrative opportunities for melanated women and girls and build a community where we are centered, seen, heard, and nurtured. We are discussing the details to better position and create a brand that transcends and supports Black women and girls, with emphasis on our future with a strong focus on Black women and girls and the building of our own table—one that supports us, centers us, and establishes our footprint in the beauty and lifestyle industry. We aren’t waiting around to advocate in hopes that companies and those outside of us acknowledge and center us beyond Black History Month, or include and sprinkle us in advertisements to say and claim they’re “diversified.” It’s time we now, with what we know, transform our ideas into profitable opportunities that support melanated women globally. And not just financially benefiting—but also positioning and creating lucrative opportunities as well. And we are doing all of it with integrity and authenticity. This isn’t anti-anyone; it’s actually about giving space and opportunity to center melanated women and girls in a whole new way—through giving opportunities where they once never existed or were held. This is particularly important for our little Black girls, who have rarely been centered in society. It’s about creating a ripple effect, penetrating the hearts and minds of our future generations. Teaching girls what it means to center themselves, to self-care, nurture, and care for themselves in healthy ways and practices.

As someone who is a visionary and has long desired to see the diversity of melanated communities of women and girls represented, I began to reflect on my own childhood. In hindsight, I noticed the lack of representation reflected back to me—whether in toys, television, or other media. As I’ve grown older, I see this gap in the lifestyle, beauty, and self-care industries. Though companies have made efforts to improve representation through diversification, something that has always troubled me is the lack of ownership by women of color, who are the biggest consumers of products in these industries. There is a significant disconnect and lack of ownership of brands that profit the most from our spending while leaving us out of the collective ownership space and the profits. It’s also impossible to ignore the lack of opportunities offered to melanated women. At HUESKINB, we are committed to going beyond being just another business that pushes products and constantly releases new items to encourage overconsumption. Our sense of value and the way we are moving forward in the world is bringing a new kind of value—one we have yet to see and experience. We aren’t looking to be just another brand; we are a movement. We are creating a full-circle industry that will fundamentally change the way we not only conduct business in the beauty and lifestyle industries but also how women are employed, empowered, and provided with opportunities. This will support both business growth and community development.
